I found this out recently! Scene:
Science: Copying work off of people next to me, talking about Wales and trying to say Oh! What's Occuring? in an accent which sounds more Chinese than Welsh.. (have a Welsh best mate).. So then one of my other best mates, who is in love with Gavin & Stacey, probably more than me, and myself ask Welsh bestfriend ask what Owain Hughes meant.
Apparently: Owain Hughes = Owing Hughes? Like I'm Owain Hughes = I'm Owing Hughes? I don't actually know if Hughes is some Welsh person or what, but still, pretty cool..
I don't even know if it's true, though. This Welsh person is a known liar.. Probably not even Welsh :/
Did anyone else know this? Or even wanted to know?
And I shouldn't have copied her, got at least half of it wrong
I know exactly what the Gavin and Stacey scene you're referring to is, but I still have no idea what you're talking about
I can't even make sense of what is written there.
I am aware of the Owain Hughes joke, a massive Gavin and Stacey fan yet to be honest your explanation makes it no clearer to me! Sorry!
There are a number of scenes referring to this; Gavin's first day of work:
Owain Hughes: Hi! I'm Owain Hughes - and before you ask, no I don't.
Welsh people laugh, Gavin is confused =L
Owain/Owen?? Hughes in a Welsh accent sounds like owing Hughes (Hughes being a person). Like I'm owing Hughes????
it's actually Owain Hughes as in Owe Wayne Hughes, which is odd as it is pronounced O-Wine in welshe.
I'm probably going to ignore your explanation if you don't mind.. It only confuses my futile mind more.
