Scott Mills Features
Here's just some of the features from the Scott Mills show from the last few years.
Your Call (2004 - Present)
During the weekday afternoon show you can choose the music (Monday - Thursday).
Just send a text to 81199 after 6.30pm to get your song played. Scott then calls the callers back. The feature originally ran from 5.00pm and 5.45pm
The Wonder Years (2004 - Present)
Every Friday from 5pm Scott plays some of the last decade's greatest tracks.
Rate My Listener (2004 - Present)
This one's for the vainer listeners amongst us. Similar to the 'hot or not' websites, listeners send in their photographs to Scott for those who visit Radio 1 online to vote on their looks. Most of the men are voted minging. During the Summer of 2005 Radio 1 introduced 'Rate My Swimwear' where listeners had to be in a swimming costume.
Flirt Divert (2004 - Present)
You're on a night out and you're getting unwanted attention. What do you do? Give them Scott Mills' Flirt Divert Line of course... 07770 756 408. Their calls will go straight to the Flirt Divert answer phone each time and Scott will play them on the air to the nation. In July 2005, whilst on a trip to Magaluff in Spain, the team introduced 'Flirt Divert International' a number for those on their holidays who meet a 'munter'. In January 2006, after a good year or so of the same number Scott changed the jingle and the number as it was becoming too popular.
Random Acts of Kindness (2003 - Present)
Occasional feature. If you're an emotional person you might want a tissue at the ready for this feature. Scott Mills brings his own version of Noel's Christmas Presents to Radio One. You might know a couple who needs pairing up, somebody who needs cheering up or someone who's ill.. Whatever the cause Scott wants to fix it.
Dr Mills' Great Experiments (2005 - Present)
Chappers goes out and about on camera with some simple 'How 2' style experiments to carry out. Usually gets messy.
The Honesty Game (2005 - Present)
Team members turn down the lights and reveal what they hate about each of the other team members. Sometimes includes questions from the listeners.
Meal Or No Meal (2006 - Present)
Parody of the game 'Deal Or No Deal'. Usually Laura takes on Scott eating tinned food trying to avoid the cat or dog food.
Golddigger (2005 - Present)
Scott makes up a story about a mystery guy or girl who is looking for someone they met in a public place. Usually a huge number of listeners call in, with ridiculous stories to claim it was them.
Secret Psycho (2004 - Present)
Stories from girls and boys about themselves, or their ex-partners, who have psycho-tendancies following a break-up.
You've Been Busted! (2004 - Present)
Have you just apparently met a guy who says he's Damien Rice in the pub? Or is the guy in your college apparently a friend of Robbie Williams? If you think they're lying get in touch and he'll do the rest. In this feature Scott makes a few phone calls to these people to find out if they're really telling the truth...
Revenge Calls (2006 - Present)
Similar to You've Been Busted, rather than confronting the caller Scott and the team just wind the company or person up with their poor acting.
Get Me Out of Here (2004 - Present)
Those on a disastrous date can text in 'get me out of here' to 81199 and Scott will try to get them out of it. But be warned, Scott and Chappers' acting may not go to plan.
Laura the Vigilante (2005 - Present)
Residential do-gooder Laura from the team hits the streets trying to fix things with the help of her megaphone.
Laura on the streets (2005 - Present)
Similar to Laura the Vigilante, Laura hits the streets with her megaphone, but is usualy causing chaos and sometimes involves some crazy costumes.
Daniel off of the Majestic Cinema (2004 - Present)
Scott plays a recorded announcement from the Kings Lynn cinema where Daniel tries to read the latest cinema information, but manages to do it in a random way. Want proof? Call the cinema.
The Takeaway Game (2004 - Present)
Scott phones a takeaway, makes an order, puts them on hold and rings up another takeaway. He then gets the first one to repeat the order to the second one, and the second one believes the first one is making a new order. From then on it gets confusing and complicated, but hopefully you get the jist.
The On Hold Game (2005 - Present)
Eventually developed into this idea where Scott calls a company known for putting people on hold. He requests some information before putting them 'on hold', which actually turns out to be Scott, Chappers and Laura playing dodgy music down the phone and pretending to be an automated voice. How long will it be before the company put the phone down?
Mills and Spoon (2004 - 2006)
Although not part of Scott's show, the feature was broadcasted on Spoony's Weekend Breakfast show. Listeners would send in a story to Spoony, and Scott would read the story, followed by an appropriate song.
Who the hell are you? (2004 - Present)
Occasional feature usually used by those standing in for Scott. Scott and Chappers phone a random celebrity from one of the radio 1 DJ's phone books and Chappers and Scott take it in turns to try and keep them chatting and then identify who the hell they are.
The Automated Answer Phone Game (2005 - Present)
This idea begun with Chappers pretending to be an automated answer-phone to unsuspecting callers to the Radio 1 telephone number. He would ask callers to press various keys, and see how long it would take before the caller put the phone down.
Scott's Guillable Mum (2006)
Scott rings his mother and acts out with the help of Radio 1 staff, some bizzare situations to see if his mum falls for it. The feature ended when his mum got his revenge, by getting the boss Rhys to call Scott about an alleged incident with Jo Whiley.
Chappers' Car Alarm Game (2006)
Whilst in a car park, Scott and Laura had to guess which cars are alarmed, and which aren't. Chappers would then kick the car wheel to see if the alarm goes off.
What Fish Am I? (2006)
The contestant (usually Scott) has to feel a fish, and decept a riddle which gives a clue as to what sort of fish it is.
Orson's Telegrams (2006)
Ran during the Summer 2006 breakfast show, where Orson recorded several singing telegrams for listeners. These included informing partners their partner was pregnant, proposing and quitting jobs. Most of the songs were based on songs from their album.
The Golden Shot (2006)
One off feature involving Ant and Dec, where one of the drinks that Chappers or Scott is drinking is a golden surprise - wee. Each contestant had to choose a drink and down it.
Lloyd the World Cup Guru (2006)
10-year-old Lloyd off of Oswestry called in to the show each day to give Scott some tips on the World Cup whilst Chappers was in Germany. He would use jokes, poems and amusing topics to make the World Cup more entertaining and easier for Scott to understand. Many people claimed Lloyd sounded like Laura's sister Mary.
Lloyd - Weapon of Mass Confusion (2006)
During the breakfast show following the World Cup, Lloyd the ten year old was used to make several calls making complaints about poor service, and generally used to confuse companies.
Pucker Up For The FA Cup (2006)
A Radio 1 sweep-stake for the FA Cup. Those that incorrectly guess the score of the FA Cup games the most end up kissing the other loser.
Scott's Nemesis - The Pizza Guy (2006)
Scott believed he'd found the rudest person ever when he rang up his local pizza delivery service. The guy gave him abuse because he couldn't decide what to buy, so Scott had some fun, ringing him up with immature phone jokes.
Laura's Diary (2005 & 2006)
After a discussion about people reading diaries in the pub, Scott and team decided they wanted to hear about Laura's past life. They asked her sister, Mary, to find the diaries from the early nineties and read parts out on air during the Breakfast Show. Laura's past life became a 'must-listen' of everyone's morning. In 2006 the diary returned with the 'College Years' featuring clips from her actual in diary in 1996.
Situations Vacant (2005)
The Scott Millsteam place weird adverts in local newspapers asking people to apply for jobs such as an 'Eastern European Spy', a 'Swedish volleyball team coach' and a cameraman for a blue movie. Those interested in the job would call the telephone number which goes straight to a Radio 1 answer-phone.
The Star Phone (2005)
Mariah Carey was the first to be given the 'star phone'. It's kind of a form of mobile phone pass the parcel. She passes it on to a celebrity, and then Scott continues to ring the phone to see where it ends up. Find out what's happening by clicking here.
Scott's School Dinners (2005)
Similar to Your Home is At Risk. Children from five to ten are invited to call in and participate in a quiz where the kids could win the luxury of some unhealthy food for their dinner including pizza, mars bars, and ice-cream. This feature ran whilst Scott was presenting the Breakfast Show but didn't really go to plan.
Carpark Price is Right (2005)
Ran during Scott's breakfast show stint, in a spoof of Carpark Catchphrase. Instead of the focus being on rubbish callers, it was on the Brucie sound-clips (including 'I have a friend who lives there') and the Price is Right style voiceovers and bad prizes. The added irony of the fact that the car horns were unnecessary made the feature even more amusing.
Your Home Is At Risk (2005)
The first radio quiz to involve bailiffs and children. Children from five to ten are invited to call in and participate in a quiz where the kids have to gamble their parents' possessions before answering a question to win a prize. This feature ran whilst Scott was presenting the Breakfast Show.
Celebrity Call (2004)
Scott makes phone calls with clips of celebrities including Bo Selecta's Trisha, Alan Patridge, Ricky Gervais, and Bruce Forsyth. A favourite for both breakfast and drivetime, at one point it used to air 4.10pm and 6.10pm daily. Occasionally makes a comeback when material is short.
The Big Fact Hunt (2004)
Designed around an immature name, Chappers posed a question for listeners to answer. The aim of the game was to search for the answer on the Big Fact Hunt Search Engine (although there are other search engines available) and then send an e-mail to Scott. The first person to send in the answer got their hands on the limited edition Scott Mills and Chappers mouse mat. Remember, knowledge is power.
Camp Man (2004)
Scott Mils was looking for the campest man in the UK in a on the phone talent search competition. Listeners eventually chose from a camp man representing England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The Download Chart (2004)
Scott Mills hosted the Download Chart on Radio 1 every Wednesday evening from 6pm until the download chart merged with the official UK Top 40.
The Booty Call (Circa. 2000)
Feature from the Early Breakfast Show which ran every Friday. A listener would get in touch with Scott and tell who they fancy. Scott would then call up the loved one and ask them out for the listener. This feature occasionally runs during the afternoon show known as 'Unlucky in Love'.
4.40 Wake Up Call (Circa. 2000)
Feature from the Early Breakfast Show where Scott plays a tune which will get his listeners out of bed. The listeners would submit a top rated song for Scott to play at this time.
