Strange that the day of the challenge has Matt and Mollie sitting for Greg. I wonder if she's supposed to be mobile co-hosting at the same time?

Oh that will be fun if they try to do Matt vs. Mollie while she's on the road.

It's been an excellent mechanism for promoting Matt and Mollie. And Mollie's really put a shift in. I love the physical challenges as they resonate with the audience but I do hope they can find something like the lolathon for creativity next year.

Had the lurgy this week so have been following it all on the radio. Hopefully I'll be well enough for Friday to see her finish in Hull.

It's been a great week of radio. Radio 1 at its best - promoting a great cause and all the DJs on air together and shows how much they all get along. This week has highlighted too just how great the likes of Greg, Matt and Katie are as broadcasters - they have been superb covering the challenge and in their genuine love and support for Mollie (who has been doing so well and is giving it her all).

Lovely too to see Matt & Mollie get their flowers so much in the past month - both thoroughly deserve it and their kindness and good spirit has really shone through these last few days even more than usual. Matt's link yesterday about how Mollie has been a support to him and him to her at around 4.45pm yesterday was just so wonderful and heartfelt and what Radio is all about.

Am I too cynical thinking some of the drama is more theatre than anything?

I always think there not doing the whole thing. Eg. They start and do maybe 5 miles, stop and a someone else takes over in disguise and basically do shifts. The photos and videos are when Mollie is on board.

Some of the timings don't add up like usually finishing at time supposed to finish at

I didn't say she wasn't doing it. I saw Mollie cycle in Burton.

I can see why people would be suspicious of it cos she's knackered and it's hard for professionals to get the times and distances and she has only had 4 weeks training.

My point wasn't that the challenge was fake - though obviously some of the timings are managed to fit a finish during Going Home even though it went wrong yesterday.

What I meant was some of the drama is clearly theatre.  I mean Matt and others have been genuine and touching about personal stories and I am not suggesting fake but there is certainly added theatre along the way to create better radio and fuel donations.

Oh yeah you've got to make good radio from it, I appreciate that point.

They've poorly timed it today she won't be in Leeds until 9pm at this rate. If it was that orchestrated and getting lifts they'd have sorted that better ?

The only thing I’d call time management is when to begin the day’s peddling.

Did she make it to Leeds

Not yet - she was on the One Show in the last hour when there were still 10 miles to go.

Still going I think - they had her on the One Show and mentioned she still had an hour to the finish line.

So she'll probably be finishing today during her usual Future Pop show.

Do wonder how tomorrow will work with the Chart as it would be quite the effort by Mollie to finish before it. Normally they'd aim to have these challenges done before the Chart

    • How long till he pops up on Radio 2 covering Romesh...?
    • Sending all the love to Mollie ❤️
    • Gosh that sounds quite serious for Mollie. Glad she seems to be on the mend now and feels strong enough to be back on the radio today
    • I listened to early shows of Jordan on capital and it was a lot more polished and professional if you will than it is now. Seems that now he's settled in he's been allowed to be more Jordan esq and have fun with the role. Still sounds great and fluid and they seem to be happy for the show to be a bit more chaotic these days
    • Mollie king statement. She collapsed 2 weeks ago and been in hospital
    • To be fair, the trio of Jordan, Chris and Sian works really well I think. I don't listen live but I always catch the podcast and it is a really fun listen. I prefer what they are doing there to any of Jordan's R1 shows that I heard, but that may be because I have always been a big fan of Chris - he always had such a creative mind on R1 and I suppose now over there they have the budget to make some of the ideas a reality.  Sian is great too, I have so much admiration for how she juggles her job with being a mum and making it look so effortless while at the same time being so honest about the reality of it.  I hope they can carry on doing what they are doing for a long time to come.  I don't think I ever caught much of the show before Roman left, but I imagine Jordan coming in has given it a more down-to-earth, slightly unpredictable, chaotic vibe where you get the polished finish of a commercial show but still get the edge of the wheels falling off every now and again. Which Chris and Sian are fully involved in too.
    • They've talked about it a few times on the Capital Breakfast podcast, recently too. I had always assumed it was Scott's wedding, but timing wise I don't think that adds up, and it was mainly Sam's anniversary post this week that made me realise that. If their wedding was in June 2024, Jordan left Radio 1 in February 2024 so it must have been a different wedding. Maybe Vick and Calvin would suit the time better as that was in September 2023.  On the podcast, they said it was a crazy wedding where nobody was allowed their phones or to post anything to social media.
    • That quote about Man City is ridiculous.
    • Going to assume that was Scott's wedding!
    • Jordan North has spoken to The i about his move from Radio 1 to Capital, revealing that he was first approached about the role at a wedding. At the time, Capital Breakfast was hosted by Chris Stark, Sian Welby and Roman Kemp. North recalled: "Chris pulled me aside and told me Roman was leaving, and said, 'I think you should come over.'" He said: "When I was at the old place, we always had one eye on it." He then compared Capital to a football team on the rise: "It was like they were Man City, in that they were up and coming, then dominating things, and everyone was copying their style." And added: "I remember tuning in and thinking, 'These guys know what they're doing.'" Two years on, Jordan says he has "absolutely no regrets" about leaving the BBC and joining Capital, where he cites the "genuine friendship" between himself, Chris Stark and Sian Welby as a major reason for enjoying the show. He also addressed the BBC's recent controversies, admitting there was some relief in moving away from the spotlight surrounding the corporation: "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't." However, he was quick to defend his former employer: "I'll always defend the BBC to the hilt. I think we need a strong BBC for everyone." Jordan added that while the scrutiny could be intense, he understands the challenges facing the corporation: "Having been there, I know you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. But yeah, I'm glad to be out of that scrutiny." Elsewhere in the interview, he spoke about his friendship with Chris Stark and Sian Welby, his occasional struggles with a low "social battery", and his belief that radio needs more working-class voices on air.
    • Is that the 'Tell your smartspeaker to play Radio 1' ones. They're not great, but certainly better than the ones they made 5 years ago!
    • Noticed recently there is a little bit of a station identity being used at the tops of hours Sort of like capital use
    • @Bluestraw I can't see him quitting weekday breakfast until either they say so or he retires, he's been on this slot far longer than any R1 slot he had - not long until Greg overtakes him as the longest host
    • 🤣 just me reading too much into everything then
