13 April 2006: Chappers’ Meal or No Meal Game

Chappers debuts a blindfolded food-tasting game where Scott and Laura must pick unlabeled tins and eat their contents — with one tin containing dog food instead of a proper meal.

Chappers introduces “Meal or No Meal,” a new game show format he’s created. Six tins of food have had their labels removed; five contain actual meals, but one holds dog food. Scott and Laura are the contestants, blindfolded so they can’t see which tin they’re choosing. The loser is whoever ends up eating the dog food.

Scott goes first, visibly nervous about the prospect. He picks a tin, tastes it cautiously, and correctly identifies it as fruit — a safe choice that keeps him in the game. Laura then takes her turn, selecting another tin. She gets baked beans, also a proper meal, which means neither has drawn the dog food yet.

Chappers insists on mixing up the remaining four tins to ensure fair play, noting that some had identifying marks on the bottom. The tension builds as he warns them about the stakes. When Scott tastes his second selection, he gets steak chunks — still human food. Laura’s luck holds too: she draws chicken-flavored food (though the exact contents aren’t entirely clear from the audio).

By the end of the game, both Scott and Laura have avoided the dog food, making them joint winners. Laura declares the experience “disgusting” and complains about the texture, while Scott seems relieved to have dodged what could have been an unpleasant fate. The banter suggests this could become a regular feature, with Chappers clearly enjoying his role as game show host and the absurdist humor of putting them through the ordeal.
