That 2003 morning proved chaotic. Scott had been put up in a hotel near Radio 1 after the Brits, but overslept so badly that he wasn’t answering his phone. His producer Lizzy had to physically go to his hotel room to wake him. The reception desk staff couldn’t rouse him either, so Lizzy ended up flicking water in his face to get him conscious. Scott had apparently been trying to throw furniture out the window and was mumbling incomprehensibly when she finally got through to him. He also attempted to leave the hotel naked at one point. Despite the chaos, Scott somehow made it to the studio in time for his show, though Lizzy’s efforts to wake him became the stuff of legend.
Fast-forward to the present day: Scott had just won a Sony Award and gave a jubilant (and notably posh-sounding) interview to the press immediately after receiving it. In the clip, he’s effusive about the award, repeating “I can’t believe it” multiple times, crediting his team, and revealing his plan to display the Sony in his bathroom — his reasoning being that everyone has to use the toilet, so they’ll all see it.
