9 August 2006: Chappers Interviews R ‘n’ B Singer Lola

Chappers conducts a cheeky interview with R ‘n’ B singer Lola about her track “No Strings,” which is being played heavily on Radio 1 — and things get increasingly flirty and flustered as the questioning progresses.

Chappers meets Lola, the artist behind the “No Strings” track that’s been in rotation on Radio 1 all week. He kicks off with deliberately awkward interview questions, starting by asking what the song is about. Lola explains it’s a playful fantasy about desire, female empowerment, and sex. When Chappers bluntly asks if she’s “up for it,” she responds she would be “in a situation of my choosing” — a moment Chappers describes as generating “huge flirty vibes.” The conversation continues with Lola listing the qualities she looks for in a man: gentleness, confidence, good humour, and being a good lover. Chappers later attempts small talk about sport and football, eventually asking her about “monkey in any” — a question that either gets garbled or Lola deliberately mishears as something ruder, turning it back on him. Later in the show, Scott and the team bring in Martin Davis, a real BBC television weather presenter, to test Laura’s (apparently Lola’s) theory that her feet can predict the weather. Martin is skeptical but plays along, examining her feet — which he describes as “clammy and sweaty” and “tepid” — and offering his own forecast. Laura predicts wet weather for tomorrow based on her feet’s moisture, while Martin suggests dry mornings with possible showers in the afternoon. The segment ends with a promise to see who was right the following day.
