18 December 2006: Santa Calls Naughty Child Joly

Scott and the team revive their annual feature where Santa calls up children who’ve been misbehaving, to get them back on the straight and narrow before Christmas Day.

This episode features “Santa Calls,” a festive feature where Father Christmas rings up children who’ve made it onto the naughty list to encourage better behaviour. The first call is to five-and-a-half-year-old Joly, who has written to Santa requesting Bratz roller skates, a flashing scooter, and face paints. However, according to her mum’s letter, Joly has been playing up at dinner time, not eating much, hiding under the table, winding up her sister, and making farting noises—which Scott makes clear “is not funny.”

When Santa (Scott in character) calls, he gently tackles each issue. He learns that Joly’s “silent but deadly” farts are substantial enough to clear the room, and her hidden teeth problems emerge during the conversation. Santa checks with his elves about the roller skates and finds they’re difficult to obtain, offering satsumas or walnuts instead. After Joly promises to stop farting and eat properly, Santa agrees the elves can likely get her the Disney Princess skates instead, and warns against the walnuts given her loose teeth.

The show then calls Joly’s mum, Casalo, for a post-call update. She reports significant improvement—Joly has been eating better and behaving well since the call, and the threat of Santa’s judgment has proven surprisingly effective. Casalo confirms that Santa phoning has been far more persuasive than parental threats alone, noting that Joly is now much better behaved at mealtimes.
