22 August 2007: Chappers Presents Golden Moments

Scott’s on holiday, so Chappers is presenting a compilation of the show’s best bits — including the infamous florist robbery prank, the Darren and Joanne dating disaster story, Scott’s mock funeral planning, and the “One Night with Laura” boyfriend-catching special.

With Scott away, Chappers takes over to replay some of the show’s most memorable moments. The episode opens with a feature testing whether florists will write anything on flower cards — including a bank robbery note, which the florist actually agrees to transcribe verbatim. The highlight is the extended “Darren and Joanne” saga, a real-life dating email war that became iconic on the show. After a first date at a New York restaurant where Darren pays, Joanne doesn’t call back. Darren then emails asking her to reimburse him $50 for her meal. When she ignores him, he escalates dramatically: leaving a voicemail with the now-famous refrain “You ate the food, you drank the wine — do the right thing”; threatening legal action and contacting her employer; and eventually calling the restaurant itself. Joanne responds by threatening a restraining order, but the restaurant ultimately comps her a drink and the situation ends.

The show also replays Scott’s mock funeral planning, where Chappers calls a funeral director with increasingly absurd requests (donating Scott’s teeth to medical science, having him stuffed and motorized to deliver his own eulogy, booking Elton John to perform a rewritten “Candle in the Wind”), and a “One Night with Laura” special where a girlfriend calls in suspicious that her boyfriend applied to take Laura out — and Chappers confirms he did, then ambushes both of them on air.
