Laura’s quest to become P. Diddy’s personal assistant suddenly bears fruit with emails from Diddy’s team, while Scott, James May and Oz Clarke attempt an early-morning wine tasting before heading off to entertain children at a nursery.
The show opens with exciting news for Laura, who months earlier had submitted a video application to be P. Diddy’s personal assistant (famously telling Diddy “if I’m your PA, you can touch me whenever you want”). She’s now received emails from representatives of Diddy’s company expressing serious interest in discussing her application — potentially leading to appearances on major American TV shows. The team is thrilled at the prospect of Laura’s big break.
The show then moves into the main event: a wine tasting at 8:30 in the morning with television personalities James May (Top Gear) and Oz Clarke (wine expert). Scott jokes that James is “the best one” on Top Gear because he’s neither Jeremy Clarkson nor Richard Hammond. Oz Clarke explains his work involves tasting around 200 wines a day, which requires spitting rather than swallowing to stay sober — a practice James fundamentally disagrees with, arguing that wine only tastes right in your throat. The pair launch into their characteristic banter about the difference between a wine connoisseur (Oz) and a wine “user” (James). They taste a Pinot Noir, with Oz walking Scott through proper tasting technique (swirling, smelling for fruit aromas, tasting), while James simply drinks it. The second bottle proves less successful with the team, with one taster apparently describing it incomprehensibly after already drinking quite a bit of it. They also discuss mulled wine and skiing, before wrapping up to promote their upcoming BBC2 series.
A subplot throughout involves a hastily-arranged plan for Scott to go to a nursery at midday to entertain children — while still under the influence of red wine.
