Peter Dickson, the legendary voice-over artist behind The X Factor and numerous other TV shows, becomes the second contender in Best Guest Week — and brings his considerable vocal talents to bear on an array of requests from listeners.
This is day two of Best Guest Week, with Peter Dickson (voiceover for The X Factor, Family Fortunes, and many other shows) competing against Sarah Beeney and other guests for the prize of a weekend in Normandy with Scott’s dad. The episode kicks off with more pet names from listeners — including “Mr Floppy Poppett,” a nickname that’s plagued caller Pete after his girlfriend Haley loudly called him this in his local pub, much to his mates’ amusement.
Peter arrives with a dice (referencing a previous guest who brought a vacuum cleaner), and the team spend much of the show requesting he deliver lines in his famous X Factor voice. He obliges with impressions, teaching Scott and the others how his signature delivery works, and delivers custom messages including one for Danny Howard, a message alert (“Liz, you’ve got a message”), and impressions including Derek Accorti. A 16-year-old caller, Sam, impresses everyone by doing a near-perfect Peter Dickson impression she’s practised from the show.
The episode also features calls from “Pom Pom Pete,” a male cheerleader at Liverpool University who’s repeatedly embarrassed by his mates for his cheerleading past. Callers reveal several cheerleading teams are keen to recruit male members. Finally, Scott introduces an unusual medical story: Stacey Gale from Edmonton, Canada, who suffered from a condition where she’d collapse whenever she heard Sean Paul records — a problem now solved by brain surgery.
