7 July 2008: Beccy Admits She’s Not a Vegetarian

Beccy comes clean about being a secret meat-eater after meeting her Greek boyfriend’s parents, while Scott replays his censored jokes from The Sunday Night Project and reveals whether Nathan went through with his pact to marry an old school friend.

The show opens with Scott discussing his appearance on The Sunday Night Project, where he performed comedy sketches alongside Justin Lee Collins. Scott explains that most of his jokes were cut from the broadcast because they were too risqué for 11 p.m. on Channel 4—one joke about the Baywatch cast was so offensive that even Justin gave him a disappointed look, especially since his kids were in the audience. Scott apologises to the “half” (as he calls Justin) for the material.

The show then revisits Nathan’s letter from the previous week, where he’d asked for advice about a pact he’d made in sixth form with his friend Joanne to marry each other if single by 30. Nathan calls back to report that he’s broken the pact—he took the show’s advice and told Joanne it wouldn’t happen. This prompts discussion about whether these “backup plans” ever actually work out in real life.

*Oh! What’s Occurring?* kicks off with Dave Pearce’s dog-identification challenge, where Dave attempts to name dog breeds by sound alone—he gets none correct, identifying them variously as Westwood’s Alsatian, a King Charles Spaniel as a fox terrier, and a beagle as a poodle. The feature also includes a Basil Brush catchphrase counter (he says “har har boom boom” seven times) and a David Hasselhoff lyric-completion game, where the Hoff fails spectacularly on all three songs, including “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”

In *Dear Scott*, listeners share stories about bar-sexual tactics (flirting girls getting men to buy drinks), Scott’s youthful “moon face,” and a curry house called Manzils in Southampton that claims him as a regular. Most significantly, Beccy admits she’s not actually vegetarian—she eats meat regularly, including bacon sandwiches and pizza toppings, and has been secretly adding meat from meat-feast pizzas to her supposedly vegetarian orders. She confesses this during Friday’s meeting with her Greek boyfriend’s parents, deciding honesty was the best policy. The show also explores how many listeners actually call phone numbers shown on TV programmes, with callers revealing they’ve tried to reach the number from Doctor Who (nearly 3,000 attempts), numbers from the TV show 24, and Ghostbusters.
