Scott and Alan Carr host a live comedy event in a bar near Radio 1, where Scott’s flatmate Fraser attempts to “heal the world through laughter” while being subjected to an electric shock collar that zaps him whenever the audience decides he hasn’t been funny enough.
This episode documents a special live comedy show organised as part of Scott’s ongoing flatmate challenge. Alan Carr warms up the audience at the secret venue near Radio 1, chatting with attendees and building anticipation before Fraser takes the stage. Fraser opens with self-deprecating material about a previous disastrous 15-second stage appearance on Monday night, before Scott introduces the unusual prop at the heart of the evening: an electric shock collar, normally used to train dogs. The gimmick is that audience members can press a button to deliver a shock to Fraser whenever they feel he hasn’t said something funny. Fraser attempts to work through his set with dry, observational humour about the worst ways to die, making jokes about drowning and heart attacks, while fielding shocks from an audience armed with the remote control. The material plays on the awkwardness of the situation as much as the jokes themselves, with Fraser remaining composed as the audience frequently activates the collar. Alan Carr also features throughout as compère, promoting his own upcoming tour dates and bantering with both Fraser and Scott about the dubious wisdom of the whole enterprise.
