8 March 2007: Florist Card Challenge Returns

Scott returns to the florist card challenge — testing how outrageous a message a flower shop will agree to print — this time enlisting a New York florist to see if American shops have different standards than their UK counterparts.

Six months after first discovering that UK florists were willing to print almost anything on greeting cards, Scott decides to revisit the feature. The original mission found that florists had few, if any, boundaries when it came to rude or unusual messages. This time, the team takes the challenge international, contacting Chelsea Florist in New York to see what they’ll put on a card accompanying flowers.

Scott calls and places an order to be sent to someone named “Casualty Wh-i-l-e-y,” then proceeds to test the florist’s tolerance with increasingly absurd and cheeky messages. The card message includes a fake cat-kidnapping ransom note (complete with demands to leave money in Washington Square), references to trimming hairs and stroking a cat (heavily reliant on double entendre), and ends with the signature “Mr. Owl” (spelled out as “S-a-y-S-h-o-n”).

To Scott’s amusement, the New York florist agrees to print the entire outrageous message without objection. When asked to read it back to confirm accuracy, the florist dutifully recites the full text—including all the cheeky innuendo—without hesitation or complaint. The feature concludes with Scott celebrating yet another florist who has proven willing to accommodate even the most ridiculous requests, suggesting the feature could become a recurring bit.
