16 March 2007: Fergie Interview and Get Me Out of Here Feature

Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas visits the show to chat about her new single “Glamorous,” and the team features a listener’s disastrous date rescue via the Get Me Out of Here text service, complete with an accidentally German grandmother impression that may have tanked her chances with her date.

Pearl Mackie is filling in for Grimmy on Breakfast as Fergie stops by for an interview. The conversation kicks off with the team revealing they have listeners acting as spies—one spotted Fergie in first class on her flight into the country, complete with flight socks. Fergie discusses the concept of “flossing” (showing off) that features in her new single “Glamorous,” and how she balances luxury travel and first-class living with staying grounded by jogging in Hyde Park and wanting to interact with regular people. The interview touches on her work ethic, admitting she doesn’t cook (her lasagna contest with her boyfriend ended in disaster), doesn’t do her own laundry, and has a personal trainer.

The show then features a listener named Anna who texted in the Get Me Out of Here service during a dull date. Scott and the team called to “rescue” her by pretending to be her grandmother, but things went spectacularly wrong when Chris (presumably a team member) decided to do a German accent as “Helga from Frankfurt” instead of playing it straight. Anna handed the phone to her date, who was thoroughly confused. The prank essentially killed any chance of a second date, though Anna admits he probably wasn’t “the one” anyway.

The show also features the Dave Game, a running bit about calling random numbers to find someone named Dave, which leads to discussion of the American equivalent—supposedly there’s always a “Baba” at Southern Waffle Houses. Multiple calls to Waffle Houses yield no Babas, leading to debate about pronunciation. The episode wraps with Fergie discussing karaoke, revealing her boyfriend owns a karaoke machine and performs “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and that she’s attempted hip-hop karaoke, even trying one of Will.i.am’s songs.
