9 May 2007: Power Plates and Tooth Tunes

Scott tests his theory that power plates were invented purely so men could watch women jiggle, and later discovers Tooth Tunes — a toothbrush that plays music through your teeth.

The show opens with Scott complaining about power plates, the vibrating exercise machines that have become trendy in gyms. He’s convinced they were invented by men purely for voyeuristic purposes, and even has money riding on whether Laura (presumably a team member or guest) will jiggle when placed on one. The gang visits a sports shop called Sweat Band across the road from Radio 1, where a power plate is displayed in the window. Scott positions Laura on the machine and gradually increases the speed, narrating the results with characteristic cheekiness. Despite initial protests about jiggling being purely biomechanical, Scott declares himself vindicated when Laura does indeed jiggle, winning his £10 bet.

The second half shifts to a product discovery: Tooth Tunes, a novelty toothbrush that plays music through vibrations that only you can hear inside your head. The bristles transmit sound directly through your teeth, with volume controlled by brushing pressure. The standard version plays Kelly Clarkson, but other songs are available, including tracks by Black Eyed Peas, Survivor, Queen, and High School Musical. Scott and the team speculate hilariously about what awful sounds could be downloaded as Tooth Tunes options, imagining waking up mid-brush to genuinely disturbing audio snippets playing directly in their skulls.
