17 March 2009: Big Weekend is announced for Swindon and Jono listens to fake gossip for 77 seconds

Radio 1’s Big Weekend

Radio 1 announced that its 2009 Big Weekend would take place in Swindon on 9 and 10 May.

The festival would be held at Lydiard Park, with 40,000 free tickets available across the weekend.

The broadcast described the main stage, the In New Music We Trust stage, BBC Introducing and the outdoor Radio 1 stage where DJs would perform.

Scott repeatedly celebrated finally being allowed to say “Swindon” after listeners had guessed locations including Monte Carlo and Amsterdam.

Jono’s accidental call

In Oh, What’s Occurring?, Greg James pretended to accidentally call Jono from Unofficial Mills while gossiping with Radio 1 colleague Gemma.

The invented story claimed Scott had been caught naked in Clinton Cards, dancing near musical Christmas cards before running into the street.

Jono stayed silently on the phone for one minute and 17 seconds before the call ended. Chappers had predicted one minute and ten seconds and won the point.

Undercover Princes

The team discussed Undercover Princes, in which foreign royalty lived ordinary lives in Britain and attempted to find love without revealing their status.

Prince Remeges approached a woman, asked whether she drank coffee, established that she was single and then said: “If you don’t mind, can I do you?”

He reached the question after 27 seconds, giving Beccy the closest prediction.

The game also included a public survey about methods people used to end relationships.
