Dear Scott was the listener-correspondence feature in which the Posh Radio 4 Lady read messages before the team responded.
A pub worker in Croyde, Devon, reported that David Hasselhoff had almost cleared the area of Brie. Hasselhoff had initially been suspicious of hot cheese but liked deep-fried Brie so much that he ordered repeated portions and bought it for other people in the pub.
Jojo in New Zealand admitted continuing to eat a raisin bun after her dog had taken a bite. The team strongly rejected sharing food with dogs and replayed an old “I’m coming to get you, Barbara” clip at her request.
A Manchester nightclub sent Chappers VIP passes after hearing that he had once been chased during a visit. Chappers could not fully remember the incident but accepted the invitation to return.
Safety marshals at Download Festival found a disposable camera near the Dynaudio stage and sent it to the programme. Scott revived the old “fun camera” idea: develop a stranger’s abandoned film and discover whether the pictures were interesting, embarrassing or simply ordinary.
Another listener found that a tiny photograph of Scott had inexplicably replaced the normal icon beside Google’s web address. The image was the notorious picture in which his ears looked especially large.
Further messages came from listeners travelling internationally, including a pair riding an old moped from Sydney towards London who offered traffic reports from Asia and the Middle East.
Beccy’s broken window
A brief studio item concerned a window or fitting around Beccy’s workspace that would not behave properly during a storm.
The team became distracted by the weather, the studio equipment moving lower and Scott smelling like a wet dog after going outside.
Oh, What’s Occurring?
A new Radio 1 employee called Sam was initiated by being sent into a busy pub and ordered to shout: “I wouldn’t go in there for ten minutes if I was you.” The room went noticeably quiet.
A montage from Katie & Peter: Stateside counted seven references to farting during an argument.
For the final round, Beccy phoned four listeners as “Deirdre from TODD — the Organisation Dedicated to the Generously Endowed” and asked for £2 monthly donations. Nobody handed over payment details.
