9 July 2009: Avenue Q auditions candidates for Mills: The Musical

Avenue Q

Members of the Avenue Q company joined the programme as Mills: The Musical moved towards casting and rehearsals.

They explained how performers operated puppets while remaining visible, how the audience learned to focus on the puppet and how the show combined familiar musical-theatre conventions with adult subjects.

Scott was interested in whether the techniques could help his own Edinburgh show and whether characters from the radio programme might work as puppets.

Auditions for Scott

The programme continued assessing men who had submitted videos to play Scott on stage.

Candidates had been asked to sing, act and explain why they were suited to portraying him.

The Avenue Q guests helped discuss stage presence, voice, comic timing and whether an impression should resemble the real Scott or create a more theatrical version.

Oh, What’s Occurring?

The daily game used another set of prediction and counting challenges drawn from public interviews and current television.

The transcript preserves the game’s structure and reactions, although some names and totals are too garbled to state reliably.
