Jason Manford joined Scott, Beccy and Chappers while he and Chappers argued good-naturedly about Manchester football.
Manford supported Manchester City and said he sometimes performed charity events connected with the club. He joked that modern players were too young to count as childhood heroes.
Finding his DVD in Tesco
Manford’s first stand-up DVD had recently been released.
He visited Tesco to see how it looked on the shelf and found it at number seven in the chart.
A woman then picked up Michael McIntyre’s number-one DVD, noticed Manford standing nearby and apologised. Manford joked that he might spend the day visiting supermarkets and guilting shoppers into buying his own release.
Life on tour
Manford was near the end of a long UK tour and planned to begin another the following June.
Because his wife had recently given birth to twins, he often drove home after shows if the journey was within four or four-and-a-half hours rather than staying overnight.
He described the unsettling experience of entering a hotel bathroom where the shower curtain was fully closed.
Manford always pulled it open quickly because horror films had convinced him somebody might be hiding behind it. Beccy enthusiastically agreed that she had the same fear.
Late-night hotel food was often poor, although Manford had once been delighted to find three miniature hot dogs on a room-service menu.
He said he rarely complained and had recently tipped a concierge £2 because £5 felt excessive and £1 felt patronising.
Loose Women
Manford had appeared on Loose Women and described the experience as flirting with his mother’s friends.
Scott was considering going for a drink with the panel and asked whether Manford would recommend it.
Manford thought Coleen Nolan might keep the night sensible but warned that an evening involving Carol McGiffin and one of the programme’s more suggestive panellists could become chaotic.
Becoming a father to twins
Manford’s wife had given birth to non-identical twins around 12 weeks earlier.
He joked that the hardest part was choosing a favourite and that both parents preferred whichever baby was not crying at the time.
He said new parents did get enough sleep eventually — only spread across six days rather than one night.
The twins made him slightly defensive of John and Edward on The X Factor. He argued that “Jedward” unfairly gave Edward his whole name while John contributed only the letter J, suggesting “Jodward” or another more balanced combination.
The X Factor and family life
Manford discussed watching The X Factor, the public reaction to Jedward and how becoming a father had changed his responses to children and families on television.
He continued promoting the DVD and tour while maintaining that the Scott Mills interview had already become his favourite of the day.
