Huw’s amazing bike
Huw Stephens brought a bicycle wired to a record player into the Radio 1 office.
Pedalling generated the power needed to play vinyl, although the machine looked unlikely to survive a serious road journey. The team prepared records, tested whether a steady speed was needed and asked listeners to suggest a name.
The first public demonstration had taken place on Huw’s show the previous evening, but Scott wanted another attempt under the less controlled conditions of his own programme.

Listeners suggested names and asked practical questions about the bike. The game then turned its performance into a numerical challenge, predicting how long the record would play or how consistently somebody could pedal.
