Scott improves television with children’s theme tunes
Scott became convinced that adult television was missing a crucial device: the sort of theme tune which tells the audience exactly what the programme is about. Children’s television had long used them brilliantly, he argued, so the team began imagining what would happen if serious programmes adopted the same approach.
The idea gave listeners a chance to supply their own versions, from crime dramas to everyday factual television. It was a simple observation which turned into a full-scale campaign to make television much more direct, musical and ridiculous.
