Bird was nearly the word
With Christmas only days away, Scott pressed on with the campaign to get The Trashmen’s “Surfin’ Bird” to number one. The song had reached number three in the midweek chart, behind John Barrowman, and Scott imagined the band returning from America for promotional appearances despite assuming they would now be in their seventies.
The team considered changing the band’s Wikipedia page to make them sound more suitable for British television, while Chris shared another sleep-recording clip in which he appeared to be talking about “the Chinese man”. Scott also met Rich, who had pretended to be Australian to impress a woman and was now trying to maintain the lie.
Stupid Street was sent out to establish whether the public knew “the bird is the word”, while Scott reminded listeners that the chart result was imminent.
