26 February 2015: Gabby Logan and Rhianna Dhillon nearly run Bingo dry

A post-Brits programme

Scott returned from the Brit Awards with scattered memories of saying hello to Lionel Richie, watching George Ezra relax during “Budapest” and seeing Alan Titchmarsh enjoy the evening. The programme played live performances but could not use Kanye West’s censored appearance, which viewers compared with the birdsong once placed over Big Brother live feeds.

Madonna’s fall during “Living for Love” dominated the aftermath. Scott had watched with his hands over his face, while later gossip about a member of her team buying arnica cream sounded almost too neat to be real.

The studio itself remained disorganised. Chris was still away, plastic from the previous day’s Bingo had not been cleared and the booking of two female players exposed the absence of proper cups before the game had even begun.

Gabby Logan and Rhianna Dhillon

Gabby Logan joined Rhianna Dhillon for Innuendo Bingo. Before playing, Gabby promoted Let’s Play Darts for Comic Relief, which paired comedians including Lee Mack, Bob Mortimer, Sean Lock, Tim Vine, Russell Howard and Richard Osman with professional darts players.

She described darts as sport presented like theatre, with competitors on a stage and an audience behaving as if it were a pantomime. Roisin Conaty had produced an unexpected sporting moment during filming which Gabby refused to spoil.

The game began with makeshift cups and repeatedly ran short of water. Clips included Radio 2 presenter Tim Smith praising his mobile package, sports discussions about laboratory work on snooker balls and Ken Brown soaking golf balls in hot water before cold-weather play.

Gabby and Rhianna continued refilling, soaked one another and delivered one of the week’s strongest games despite the missing equipment. Rhianna made the wet walk back through the office while listeners immediately asked for the video.

Student songs and family trees

More student-election videos arrived, with “Uptown Funk” still absorbing policies from campuses around the country. The accumulated campaigns were beginning to feel less like individual efforts and more like a single national genre.

Karen’s research into Jamie Redmayne’s possible connection with Eddie Redmayne also continued through a long reply-all email chain. Scott received every update about 18th-century relatives and began regretting his role as the person who introduced them.

Real or No Real

Greg played a post-Brits round containing gossip close enough to reality to be difficult. One Direction really had sometimes stayed on yachts because fans monitored every hotel in a city. A member of Madonna’s crew buying arnica after her fall was not treated as confirmed simply because it sounded plausible.

The game matched the wider programme: fragments of a major awards night being sorted into what definitely happened, what somebody heard and what had already become an internet joke.
