8 June 2015: Scott finally meets Pitbull after five years

Pitbull stress

Five years after the show began asking for him, Pitbull was finally coming into the studio. Scott reacted as though Radio 1 were preparing for the Queen, hopping around like a nervous penguin and applying deodorant while producers paced outside.

The booking was sufficiently last-minute that some listeners missed the warning, but Scott had no difficulty conveying how important it was to him. Pitbull entered with the calm of somebody accustomed to being called Mr Worldwide and immediately told Scott that good things came to those who waited.

Recording around the world

Pitbull explained that his music painted a picture of his life and showed the growth between different records. He rarely worked in conventional studios, recording instead in hotel rooms around the world. Bathrooms were useful once mattresses and pillows had been arranged to control the sound.

Scott offered him one of the “Vote Scott” tuxedo T-shirts left from Strictly Come Dancing. Pitbull promised to take it away, ask his dancers to pose in it and let the public decide whose photograph was best. The shirt had therefore acquired a second international career after failing to keep Scott in the competition.

Pitbull also discussed performing for the US president, making records with other artists and the disciplined routine behind his image. Scott wanted to know everything from his breakfast to the number of bathrooms he used, but Pitbull insisted that he remained a simple and grateful person.

Seth enters the Danube

Will returned from the stag do he had bought on eBay. Five days in Budapest had been expensive, and the 21 strangers were beginning to tire of the attention received by his toy badger.

During a boat trip, Seth became more interesting to the guide than the stag party. One of the men responded by throwing the badger into the Danube, although it was recovered. Will remained delighted by the weekend and was already due to join a hen party in Barcelona.

Greg plays Real or No Real

Greg James considered claims involving the price of Britney Spears perfume, Michael Bublé’s wedding music and Ed Sheeran borrowing fans’ streaming logins to watch Game of Thrones. Greg won by 30 points to 20.

The quiz closed a day in which the most improbable events were not among its questions: Pitbull had genuinely arrived, Scott’s Strictly shirt was leaving with him and a toy badger had survived the Danube.
