Chris’s half-hour show lasts one link
Scott was expected to be late because he was interviewing Jennifer Lawrence, giving Chris a rare half-hour of Radio 1 to control. He had planned features, callers and shout-outs, only for Scott to walk in after one link because the interview had finished early.
Chris felt cheated even though it was technically good news. Scott described Jennifer as immediately relaxed and funny and saved the full interview for the New Year’s Eve Breakfast Show.
Russell Howard and the best clips of 2015
Russell Howard arrived for the last Innuendo Bingo of the year. He discussed preparing a huge 2017 arena tour by testing material in small rooms, his ability to play the Homes Under the Hammer theme on guitar and an American travel series with his mother.
The game used favourite clips from across 2015, recalling the year’s appearances by David Haye, Anne Hegerty and Vicky Pattison as well as the flying Student Tour edition with Grimmy. Russell embraced the retrospective and described it as a lovely way of getting wet. The final selection included familiar cookery, gardening and daytime-television lines before everybody acknowledged that Bingo was finished until 2016.
Christmas in a week and a day
Listeners had spent the afternoon reminding Scott that 17 December was the only correct day for Magnus Carlsson’s “Wrap Myself in Paper”. Its lyric explicitly placed Christmas “in a week and a day”, making the date non-negotiable.
Scott temporarily claimed he could not find the song, producing alarm from callers who had been waiting all year. It eventually played in full, prompting celebrations from streets, workplaces and cars. The highly specific ritual survived for another year.
