A joyful update on Shannon, the eight-year-old girl who Scott surprised with McFly after her brain tumour diagnosis. Her godfather Paul rings in with brilliant news: Shannon has finished treatment and been given the all clear by doctors.
Over a year earlier, Scott had arranged a surprise meeting with McFly for Shannon after learning she’d been diagnosed with a brain tumour at the front of her head. The tumour was removed but found to be cancerous, leading to a gruelling year-and-a-half course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Now, in this follow-up call, Paul rings in to share that Shannon has completed all her treatment and received the all clear from her doctors. She’s returned to school, regained weight she’d lost during treatment, and her hair has grown back. While she’ll need six-monthly check-ups and will likely remain on epilepsy medication long-term to manage some seizures caused by scar tissue, the family is understandably thrilled with the prognosis. Scott also relives the emotional September call when he first rang Shannon during treatment to check on her, and reveals that McFly’s Tom Fletcher rang in at that time to invite her to see them on tour. Danny from McFly is then brought on the line to add his own congratulations, and Scott gives Shannon a final call to hear her reaction to the good news directly. The episode is suffused with genuine warmth and the clear relief of everyone involved that Shannon’s ordeal appears to be over.
