18 February 2008: Susan on Radio 1

A Flirt Diverter caller asks to be called Susan, which sparks the discovery that Laura has been calling Scott “Susan” all along—leading to the birth of “Susan on Radio 1″—while Laura becomes convinced that Scouting for Girls wrote “She’s So Lovely” about her.

The show opens with a Flirt Diverter message from a caller named James who requests to be called Susan, which prompts Scott to ask Laura why she’s been calling him Susan every morning. Laura arrives and insists it’s a private nickname that suits him, but won’t fully explain the joke—leaving Scott genuinely puzzled and slightly paranoid about it. The “Susan” theme sticks and becomes a running gag throughout the show.

Meanwhile, Scott receives a desperate call from Molly, a listener locked out of her house in the cold without proper clothing. Scott tries to help by keeping her company and distracted with funny stories about his own mishaps, sharing tales of getting locked out in his pants and shorts. The conversation drifts into a wider discussion about calling friends by wrong names—Scott’s housemate and others do it constantly—before Laura eventually makes contact with Molly’s family to let her back in.

Later, Scott plays back an interview from Chris Moyles’s breakfast show with Scouting for Girls, who revealed that their song “She’s So Lovely” is about multiple people. Laura becomes convinced the song is partly about her, insisting that Roy Thomas Laine confirmed this during the interview. Scott’s skepticism doesn’t deter her—she’s certain she’s one of the five people the song references. To mock her certainty, the show creates a parody version called “Laura’s Lovely,” sung to the same tune, which only reinforces her delusion that the original really is about her.
