In Dear Scott, the Posh Radio 4 Lady read listener emails before the team responded.
One long message imagined driving Scott to a party in a large car, collecting Beccy on the way and watching her emerge in a white dress. The writer’s romantic description led the team to question how much detail had been invented.
A listener who had previously helped record What Are Those Old People On About? clarified that she was the person responsible for the “granny describing” feature, although the programme used the more formal title.
Fraser proposed spending several days experiencing the life of a Radio 1 DJ. His plans included visiting a pub, counting pennies to buy white wine, flying to see Wing and attempting Lady Gaga songs on the piano using only his feet while slamming his fingers in the lid. Scott declined because he already had weekend plans.
Caroline complained that Friday podcasts were consistently short and asked whether Scott left early for a spray tan, Pinot Grigio and a cheese board or simply stopped being funny by the end of the week.
Ryan asked the team to identify a music video involving a singer who became close to a woman already in a relationship while knowing that her boyfriend was unfaithful. Scott could not identify the song from the description.
A listener in Sydney said she had become a fan through the podcast and addressed Beccy as “Cheesy Beccy”, creating another nickname for the team to repeat.
Wing’s Michael Jackson album
Wing, the Chinese-born New Zealand singer championed by the programme, sent previews from her album Beat It.
Scott remembered her appearance at Radio 1’s 2008 Big Weekend in Maidstone, when the audience chanted her name and she performed Dancing Queen.
The new recordings included Michael Jackson’s Beat It and Man in the Mirror. Scott and Beccy discussed whether Wing was slightly behind the backing track and laughed when she suddenly accelerated to catch the next lyric.
Wing was said to dream of an O2 Arena residency between Michael Jackson and Britney Spears. Scott admitted that arranging Big Weekend had been easier than securing the O2.
Oh, What’s Occurring?
Greg James wore a helmet, gloves and protective pads before propelling himself across the Radio 1 office on a wheeled chair towards ten empty water-cooler bottles arranged like skittles.
He knocked down all ten, leaving none standing.
Scott then replayed a prank call in which he used a poor West Country accent to pose as an obsessed Lorraine Kelly fan.
He repeatedly asked her to prove her identity by saying: “Hello and welcome to LK Today”, declared the call the happiest moment of his life and tried to put his mother on the line. Lorraine remained friendly for one minute and 55 seconds before saying she had to leave or miss a plane.
The final challenge featured “Peakon” telling people his favourite joke: “Two nuns in a bath. One says, ‘Where’s the soap?’ The other says, ‘That’s right, it does, doesn’t it?’”
Most respondents did not understand or laugh. Two were counted as reacting enough to qualify.
