The programme replayed Jonathan Wills accidentally telling Anglia News viewers that he loved them and repeated its request for more local news presenters to do the same.
Fred Dinenage responded at the end of ITV Meridian’s bulletin.
After congratulating Bob and Nada Williams from Canterbury on 65 years of marriage, he addressed “Radio 1 DJ Danny Howard”, said “love you” and immediately added: “Don’t take it personally.”
Scott appreciated the effort but ruled that it did not fully count because the challenge was to tell the entire audience, not one named presenter.
He continued calling for Lucy Meacock and other regional news figures to end with a general declaration of love.
Oh, What’s Occurring?
The Stupid Street round tested whether members of the public would say “I love you too” to a stranger.
Ten people were first asked harmless questions about biscuits, jam, board games, tomatoes or dinner. At the end of each exchange, the interviewer said: “I love you.”
Some people ignored it, replied only with thanks or reacted with alarm.
Four returned the affection and said “I love you too”.
Chappers had predicted three, making him close enough to win the point.
The programme particularly enjoyed one participant’s assertive confirmation that a tomato was a fruit and another man’s unusually pronounced answer of “milk chocolate Hobnobs”.
