8 October 2009: At home with the Posh Radio 4 Lady

The aftermath of Jemma’s dinner

The team arrived feeling the effects of Jemma’s birthday meal. Scott said the rich sauces had left him so full that he went home and lay on the cold bathroom floor, comparing the experience with falling asleep after Christmas dinner.

Everyone agreed that the evening had been enjoyable, but the quantity and richness of the food had overwhelmed them.

At home with the Posh Radio 4 Lady

The programme expanded the Posh Radio 4 Lady character beyond the formal readings heard in Dear Scott. Listeners were given a glimpse of her imagined home life, habits and attitudes, allowing the team to contrast the elegant voice with more ordinary situations.

The feature continued the joke that she existed in a completely separate world of careful pronunciation, formal manners and unexpectedly strong opinions.

Dear Scott

The day’s letters included overseas listeners, comments about recent records and messages correcting things the team had said. Each was read with unnecessary ceremony before Scott, Beccy and Chappers supplied considerably less formal answers.
