Listeners take control of Radio 1
For U CTRL Radio 1, Danny Howard set about finding the guests listeners had requested. Chris Smith from the news used his contact with Karl Pilkington to get him on the phone, allowing Danny and Karl to reminisce about working nights together and the comfort of a hot-chocolate machine.
The premise gave the audience unusual control over the show, from the guest list to the music, although Danny was quick to observe that leaving decisions entirely to listeners could be risky. The programme was a good snapshot of Radio 1 experimenting with its audience while still letting its presenters enjoy the chaos.
