Nathan Sykes gets soaked
Nathan Sykes arrived during the launch of his solo career and accepted the Radio 1 initiation of Innuendo Bingo. Scott reminded him that leaving The Wanted meant facing the game alone, although Nathan’s 1.6 million Twitter followers suggested he was not short of support.
Nathan promoted “Kiss Me Quick” before producing an exceptionally strong spray against Chris. Clips included a cabinet minister rejecting a “cash-in-hand job”, cricket commentary and a report about forcing entry through somebody’s back door. Scott declared Nathan the unofficial winner of a game that did not normally have one and directed listeners to the full video on BBC iPlayer.
Revision through song
With A-levels and GCSEs under way, listeners were taking breaks specifically to watch Bingo. Newsbeat had suggested converting revision notes into songs, so Scott and Chris tested whether facts became easier to remember once attached to familiar tunes.
The method suited a programme already willing to turn almost anything into music. It also gave revising listeners a reason to claim that listening to Radio 1 still counted as preparation.
The wedding solution
The previous day’s attempt to book Alan Titchmarsh for Chris’s girlfriend’s sister’s wedding produced an unexpected volunteer. Matt had registered with a lookalike agency because of his resemblance to David Guetta and offered his services to the show.
That was far more useful. Scott imagined Matt arriving in an expensive car with security, standing behind a pre-mixed DJ set and saying as little as possible. If everything were presented convincingly, guests might believe a global star had replaced Alan Titchmarsh.
The main obstacle was Matt’s voice. The agency had already advised him to learn French, so Scott arranged to check his progress the following week. Matt was enthusiastic enough to consider the wedding, and Chris suddenly had a celebrity booking plan that was ridiculous but not entirely impossible.
Alan Dedicoat plays Real or No Real
Alan Dedicoat provided the Tuesday announcement for Real or No Real. The show also tested song-recognition apps with Rixton’s vocals, discovering that even a performance by the actual artist was not guaranteed to produce the right result.
By the end of the programme, Nathan Sykes had survived his soaking and Matt had acquired a possible new identity. The bride might not get Alan Titchmarsh, but the prospect of “David Guetta” at the wedding was beginning to take shape.
