The anonymous coffee-shop insider
An ex-employee of a major coffee chain called under the false name Brian and used a disguised voice. She confirmed one of Scott’s long-held suspicions: staff sometimes wrote the wrong name on a cup deliberately when they recognised somebody likely to photograph the mistake for Instagram.
The supposed secret menu was less mysterious. Customers could request combinations not displayed on the board, including white hot chocolate with caramel, vanilla or hazelnut, frappés resembling familiar chocolate bars and seasonal syrups outside their advertised period if any remained. Friendly regulars might receive experiments or free drinks, while staff created elaborate mixtures for themselves during late shifts.
There was no official code word. The real technique was confidently asking for something and, when refused, pointing out that the ingredients were visible behind the counter.
A proposal-video confession
Cass brought a Show and Tell that became a confession. Whenever she felt sad, she watched compilations of strangers proposing marriage, particularly elaborate Disney proposals, so that she could cry happy tears.
Her interest extended into work: she was a silver-service waitress at weddings and had collected ideas for her own ceremony despite not being engaged. Her boyfriend played FIFA or Call of Duty while she watched first dances and proposals through headphones. Scott and Chris discovered that some videos had millions of views and reluctantly accepted that Cass was part of a substantial audience rather than an isolated romantic.
The exceptional Bamboleo gap
Listeners treated Bamboleo Wednesday as a scheduled event even though its broadcast time changed. Carl in Edinburgh set alarms for 14:38 and 14:39, while Amanda moved a work meeting away from the likely gap.
The gap ran unusually long, giving listeners time for dancing, twerking, laboratory work and increasingly elaborate location messages. Alice Levine played Real or No Real and confirmed that Danny Howard and Greg James really shared the same hair product, taking turns to order it in bulk after Greg once smelled Danny’s head and approved.
