The art of leaving without saying goodbye
A QI word of the day gave Scott a formal description for his party behaviour: to absquatulate is to leave suddenly and secretly. Chris immediately recognised the technique because Scott regularly disappears from events without saying goodbye.
Matt Edmondson was identified as another expert. He could attend a party for ten minutes, appear in enough photographs to suggest he stayed all evening and then vanish before anybody noticed. Chris’s own solution was simpler because he often avoided the party altogether.
Will Best gets soaked
Will Best arrived ahead of ITV’s Dance Dance Dance and discussed watching accomplished celebrities perform elaborate routines. The programme’s staging made mistakes unusually visible, leaving Will available to provide hugs whenever a contestant became upset.
He then faced Chris in Innuendo Bingo and received what Scott described as the soaking of his life. Clips from sport, gardening and factual television produced such sustained sprays that the round became an accidental wet T-shirt contest. Will survived and promised to recommend the game to Alesha Dixon.
What happened in Vegas
A listener had kissed a woman during New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas but remembered very little of their two hours together. The following day she messaged to praise his kissing and continued contacting him, suggesting whale watching, a visit to London and even a second job to pay for the journey.
Her mother had watched them kiss, meaning he had also made an unexpectedly strong impression on the family. Scott and Chris concluded that the listener had offered more than a casual Vegas encounter and could no longer rely on simply disappearing from social media. Charlie Sloth eventually joined Real or No Real, where a narrated sightseeing bus tour for dogs turned out to be genuine.
