Paddy reaches Glasgow
Paddy completed the 300-mile route from Wrexham to BBC Scotland’s headquarters at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.
The ride had taken five days and crossed three countries on a bike never designed for endurance cycling.
Scott replayed moments from the week, including roadside crowds, cold starts, physical pain and the extraordinary public response.
£7.8 million and rising
By the afternoon, the total stood at approximately £7.8 million.
Scott stressed that the amount was still increasing ahead of the live Children in Need television programme.
Paddy had finished the ride earlier than some listeners expected, but donations remained open.
One listener apologised for saving their money for the final stretch only to discover he had already arrived.
Scott reassured them that the donation would still count.
The Birthday Game: Catherine
Catherine from Carnwath in South Lanarkshire turned 60.
Paddy’s route had passed close to her village.
She was preparing for a birthday city break in Kraków and had decorated her nails with the Polish flag and eagle.
Her Christmas-obsessed daughter had asked her to bring back tree baubles from one of Kraków’s year-round Christmas shops.
Catherine liked 1980s and 1990s music and named Robbie Williams as a favourite.
Her first spin was Black Eyed Peas’ Meet Me Halfway. She rejected it.
The second was the Boomtown Rats’ Rat Trap. She rejected that too.
Her compulsory final song was Charles & Eddie’s Would I Lie to You?, number one in 1992.
Catherine associated it with working in a hotel during that period and said it brought back brilliant memories.
The Wonder Years
The Friday Wonder Years began in 1995 and included Alanis Morissette, Faith Hill and Christina Aguilera.
One final push
Scott encouraged listeners to make one final donation before the Children in Need television programme.
He wanted the Radio 2 total shown on BBC One that evening to demonstrate the scale of the audience’s support.
Handover
