11 February 2025: Game Changers, Steps and the Easiest Quiz

Game Changers returns

Scott brought back Game Changers, asking listeners for the small discoveries, routines and shortcuts that had made an unexpectedly large difference to everyday life.

The suggestions ranged from household organisation to cooking, travel and phone settings. Scott’s test was whether the tip was genuinely useful rather than merely something its sender had always done.

The strongest ideas were discussed with Ellie and Tina, who considered whether they would actually adopt them. Listener reaction then helped establish which tips deserved to become permanent additions to the programme’s growing list.

The Easiest Quiz: Amy asks for more Steps

Amy from Birmingham entered to prove something to her children, aged 13 and 10, who believed she was neither especially cool nor likely to succeed at the quiz. She said the feature was one of the few things the whole family agreed about during the school run.

Before starting, Amy gave Scott one piece of feedback on the new breakfast show: “Maybe a bit more Steps.” He immediately had the request written down.

Jason’s eight points from Monday were the score to beat. Amy correctly answered questions about cooking eggs, hairdryers, the number of letters in “no”, Mariah Carey, Ten to the Top, microwaves, Jerry, tricycles and David Beckham.

Her run ended when Scott asked what “MP” stood for. Amy heard “MVP” and froze, before correctly identifying “member of Parliament” after the buzzer. She blamed another signal problem, but admitted the excuse was unlikely to survive after Jason’s call the previous day.

Amy finished with nine points and moved into the Streak of the Week lead. Scott then asked for her favourite Steps song; she answered “5, 6, 7, 8” without hesitation, and he played it immediately.

The Birthday Game: Ben chooses Fireflies

Ben from Rhondda Cynon Taf turned 43. The adult social worker had a rare day off and planned his traditional birthday breakfast at McDonald’s before spending time with his wife Lara and collecting the children from school.

He wanted something from the 1990s indie era, although Scott warned that relatively few of those records had reached number one.

The first spin produced Owl City’s Fireflies, number one in 2010. Ben liked it immediately, said it was already on his iPod and followed Scott’s advice to stop when a song felt right.

The two unused choices were Men at Work’s Down Under and 2 Unlimited’s No Limit. Ben preferred Fireflies to both and was pleased that he had resisted the temptation to keep spinning.

11 February 2025: Vernon Kay

Scott used the handover to continue the Piano Room conversation and report that the audience had already succeeded in changing the music policy by requesting more Steps.
