The Good Morning Minute
Scott’s rapid roll call included a listener with a coat zip stuck at the top, somebody who had burnt toast, a parent matching children’s socks, a dog trying raw food for the first time and a cyclist getting soaked in Swansea.
He also heard from someone heading to an eye test, a listener who had stayed up for football penalties and a family caught in traffic and likely to miss the school bus.
The Easiest Quiz: Kay scores 19
Kay from Hull regularly competed in a speed quiz at the Gardeners Arms with a team called “The Old Grey Mare Has Smelly Pints”. Scott recreated the pub using sound effects and offered her a pretend pint of cider before beginning.
Charlotte’s 16 was the score to beat. Kay moved through questions about sausage rolls, microphones, popcorn, double acts, marathons, award ceremonies, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Tinker Bell, cowboy hats, games consoles and Jaws.
Asked who cut her hair, she answered “a hairdresser”, although Scott revealed that the quiz would also have accepted the name Andrew. She continued with water, swimming costumes, noses, Graham Norton’s red chair and pepperoni.
Her run ended on “What rhymes with chin?” Kay could not produce “gin” in time, despite telling Scott immediately afterwards that she loved it. She finished with 19 and became the new Streak of the Week leader.
Stacey Dooley
Stacey Dooley joined Scott to discuss her latest work and the documentary style that had made her one of the BBC’s most recognisable presenters.
She spoke about entering unfamiliar environments, gaining people’s trust and knowing when a programme needed her to ask a direct question rather than simply observe.
Scott asked about the emotional effect of carrying difficult stories after filming had ended. Stacey described the importance of separating professional responsibility from the instinct to remain personally involved.
The conversation also covered motherhood and the practical changes it had brought to work, travel and the way she judged which projects to accept.
Listeners responded to Stacey’s straightforward manner and the contrast between serious documentary subjects and the lighter atmosphere of the breakfast studio.
The Birthday Game
The Birthday Game moved through three former number-one records, with the contestant weighing familiarity against the risk of a stronger final choice.
12 March 2025: Vernon Kay
The handover revisited Kay’s strong quiz score and looked ahead to Paddy McGuinness and the final preparations for Belfast.
