25 March 2025: Fearne Cotton off of the 90s is here

A morning of 1990s memories

Scott and Fearne Cotton revisited the technology and television rituals that defined the 1990s. Teletext holidays became one of the strongest memories, with listeners remembering the slow-loading pages, yellow text and the sense that searching for a bargain without visiting a travel agent felt revolutionary.

They also discussed Bamboozle, the Teletext quiz, and the way news, sport and entertainment information appeared in blocky text long before smartphones made everything instantly available.

The programme mixed listener memories with songs from the period, turning the conversation into a wider celebration of a generation that remembered both analogue childhoods and the arrival of the internet.

Fearne joined Scott to reflect on beginning her broadcasting career while still young and growing up in public through children’s and music television.

She talked about the pace of 1990s and early-2000s entertainment, when presenters moved between live television, interviews, chart programmes and outside broadcasts with little separation between them.

Scott asked about the friendships and working relationships formed during that period, as well as the moments that now looked completely different when viewed through a modern lens.

The conversation moved into Fearne’s later work around wellbeing and mental health. She explained that the shift had not been a rejection of entertainment, but a response to subjects people increasingly wanted to discuss honestly.

Their shared history gave the interview a relaxed tone. Scott and Fearne could refer to programmes, colleagues and pop moments without needing to explain why they mattered to listeners who had followed them since the 1990s.

The Easiest Quiz: Phil scores 30

Phil from Wales played after saying his perfect day involved coffee, cake, a dog walk and a garden centre. Rachel’s 25 from Monday was the score to beat.

He moved confidently through questions about the French flag, sayings, scales, spelling, earphones, skydiving, exercise, socks and classical composers.

Phil mistakenly believed contestants had five seconds to answer each question. Scott pointed out that he appeared to be confusing the programme with Rylan’s weekend quiz, which used a visible countdown.

Despite the confusion, Phil reached 30 points and became the new Streak of the Week leader. His run ended only after one delayed answer finally gave the quiz grounds to stop him.

The Birthday Game: Jane and the motorhome

Jane from West Lothian joined while travelling in her motorhome, or “moho”. She celebrated her birthday alongside Elton John, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Woodburn and Aretha Franklin.

Jane described herself as an Elvis fan but also liked major female stars including Kylie Minogue, Diana Ross, Madonna and Adele, as well as groups from the Bee Gees to the Walker Brothers.

Her first spin produced Snap!’s The Power, the German Eurodance group’s debut single. The game continued as she weighed nostalgia against the chance of a stronger later choice.

25 March 2025: Vernon Kay

The handover reflected on Fearne’s memories and Phil’s 30-point quiz score, which would prove difficult for the rest of the week to beat.
