Goldblum or Goldblum?
Scott began the morning with a listener poll on the pronunciation of Jeff Goldblum’s surname. He asked whether it rhymed with “room” or “mum” and played voice notes offering both versions and several answers somewhere between the two.
A clip of Jeff himself avoided solving the problem, with the actor responding to the question by saying: “How dare you speak to me.”
The uncertainty became a running joke as Scott repeatedly asked Tina Daheley and listeners for a definitive ruling before Jeff arrived.
Shakespeare’s Good Morning Minute
The Good Morning Minute took place on Shakespeare Day, prompting listeners to send ordinary morning details with theatrical or mock-Shakespearean wording.
The minute included power walks, family trips and holiday preparations, with Scott moving rapidly through names and places while trying to maintain the Bard-inspired theme.
The Easiest Quiz
Wednesday’s contestant attempted to beat Charity Shop Dawn’s 11. The section continued the programme’s pattern of simple questions becoming unexpectedly difficult once the player was live and under time pressure.
Jeff Goldblum
Jeff Goldblum joined Scott live at 8.30 and immediately turned the interview into a series of digressions, pauses and unexpected observations.
Scott described the encounter afterwards as “one of the weirdest but most brilliant half hours you can ever have in your life” and compared it with “the best rollercoaster you’ve ever been on”.
The conversation included Jeff’s habit of delivering encouraging statements to himself in the mirror. The programme had already adopted these as “Jeffirmations”, built around the line: “You’re smart enough, you’re good enough and gosh darn it, people like you.”
Jeff discussed acting, music and the pleasure he took in following an idea wherever it led rather than answering only the narrow question in front of him.
Scott largely allowed the conversation to unfold at Jeff’s pace, later admitting that he needed herbal tea and a rest after the guest left.
The Birthday Game: Sophie takes a risk
Sophie from Warrington turned 34. Her mum had signed her up, and the pair regularly worked their way through afternoon teas around Warrington and the surrounding area.
Sophie had replaced concerts with holidays that year, with trips to Iceland, Mexico and Ireland planned. She shared her birthday with Dev Patel, Gigi Hadid and William Shakespeare.
Her ideal birthday number one was Chesney Hawkes’ The One and Only, the song that had been at number one on the day she was born.
Her first actual choice was The Beatles’ Ticket to Ride from 1965. Sophie spun again. The second was Destiny’s Child, leaving her to decide whether to stop or take the final risk.
23 April 2025: Vernon Kay
Scott handed over visibly exhausted by Jeff’s visit. Vernon said he had first met Jeff around 20 years earlier and recognised the experience immediately.
