The Easiest Quiz
Scott placed the week’s quiz competition at the centre of the morning, reminding listeners that the winner would receive the Radio 2 egg cup.
The programme’s prize had developed its own mythology because it was simultaneously unimpressive and highly desired by regular listeners.
The contestant faced a sequence of easy questions under strict timing rules, with Scott challenging the quiz whenever an answer appeared reasonable but did not match the expected wording.
The Golden Toaster
Scott also continued referring to the Golden Toaster, the much larger prize available only to somebody capable of defeating the quiz completely.
Listeners debated whether the toaster genuinely existed, how useful it would be and whether its appearance lived up to the prestige the programme had built around it.
Good Morning Minute
The minute collected work journeys, school runs and listeners still recovering from Eurovision and Chelsea Flower Show.
The Birthday Game
Another listener chose between three former number-one singles, with Scott supplying chart facts and warning that reaching the third song removed the right to refuse it.
21 May 2025: Vernon Kay
The handover continued the argument over whether the egg cup or Golden Toaster represented the more desirable piece of Radio 2 merchandise.
