2 July 2025: Sara Cox sits in with Steph McGovern

Sara’s Wednesday breakfast

Sara opened with another deliberately oversized introduction to the morning, promising daft features, listeners on 88291 and music designed to carry people through the middle of the week.
The programme retained Scott’s normal structure while allowing Sara’s own phrases and running jokes to shape the links.

Steph McGovern

Steph McGovern joined Sara for a conversation spanning television, business and growing up in the north-east.
She discussed her route from engineering and business reporting into presenting, and why practical knowledge remained useful when interviewing company leaders and politicians.
Sara asked about live television and the need to translate complex stories without stripping away the facts that actually mattered.
The conversation also covered family life, humour and the public tendency to assume presenters were always as confident away from the camera as they appeared on screen.
Steph remained involved across the programme rather than arriving only for a short promotional exchange, giving the segment the feel of a catch-up between broadcasters.

The Easiest Quiz and Birthday Game

A Wednesday contestant attempted to build a new quiz streak while Sara explained the rules in her own language and the unseen quiz continued to enforce them with no flexibility.
The Birthday Game later gave another listener three former number-one singles, with the third spin carrying the usual risk of being left with a record they would never have chosen.

2 July 2025: the handover

Sara handed over after Steph McGovern’s visit and another morning of familiar Scott Mills features presented in her own style.
