24 July 2025: Katherine Ryan plays Elder vs Millennial

Katherine Ryan

Katherine Ryan joined Scott for a conversation about stand-up, family and television.
She discussed turning personal experiences into material while deciding which stories still belonged to the people around her.
The conversation covered the confidence required to maintain a clear comic point of view even when audiences disagreed.
Scott asked about British and North American audiences and whether the same joke produced different reactions.
Katherine reflected on motherhood, relationships and the way family life had changed the subjects she wanted to explore.
Her quickness made her a natural participant in the programme’s generational game.

Elder vs Millennial

Katherine joined a round of Elder vs Millennial built from technology, advertising, music and television references.
The older material included sounds and phrases that Scott regarded as universally recognisable, only for younger participants to place them inside entirely different contexts.
Katherine approached the game competitively and challenged whether several references genuinely belonged to a single generation.
The round became a conversation about which parts of childhood culture remained visible through repeats and internet clips and which had vanished completely.
Scott kept score while reading messages from families playing along in cars.
