18 September 2006: Flirt Divert Highlights and Dancing on Ice Denial

Scott clears down the Flirt Divert line with the weekend’s best attempts to chat up potential dates, then addresses tabloid rumours about him appearing on Dancing on Ice.

The episode opens with highlights from the Flirt Divert line, the ongoing feature where listeners attempt to flirt their way into dates while steering clear of unattractive people. Among the submissions, one caller tries his luck by inviting a woman named Trisha around for a bite to eat and a sing-along, offering to showcase his singing voice as a selling point – a strategy that seems to work, as she apparently gives him her number. Another clip features someone attempting to woo a woman with a duet of “I’ve Got You, Babe,” a performance that leaves the recipient thoroughly bewildered and disturbed rather than charmed.

Scott then addresses a story that appeared in the Sunday Mirror claiming he would be appearing on the next series of Dancing on Ice. He firmly denies the rumour, stating that his lawyers are handling it and making clear he has no intention of participating. When pressed on whether he’s been approached, he’s cagey but ultimately rules it out completely, joking that he can’t even skate properly and would be the type clinging to the side while teenagers zoom past. He theorises that any show wanting him on would only be interested in humiliating him, having presumably seen footage of his poor performance with a horse. Laura offers enthusiastic support, even threatening to hold a banner at the ice rink, but Scott remains unmoved. The episode also briefly mentions that someone called “Wes” – possibly from the Chart Show – might be appearing on a celebrity version of Dancing on Ice instead.
