6 October 2006: Magnus the Danny Howard Daily Lookalike

Scott speaks to Magnus Ramsey from Belfast, who’s been mobbed by locals convinced he’s a Danny Howard Daily doppelgänger after getting laser eye surgery — and has even been confirmed as a lookalike by the man himself at a Dublin book signing.

The show opens with the Flood Divert number prank in full swing, with a story about a woman left stranded at a bingo hall after being given the fake number. Scott and the team discuss how being mean to women doesn’t actually work, playing a voicemail from a caller professing his love, which they repurpose as a prank call to Pete (who was caught off-guard during a work meeting and hung up immediately).

The main feature involves Magnus Ramsey, a Belfast man who’s become something of a local celebrity after his resemblance to Danny Howard Daily was apparently confirmed by the BBC Radio 1 DJ himself at a book signing in Dublin. Magnus sent in an email offering his services for PR events, complete with photos showing him in orange shorts and various poses. Scott and the team find the whole thing hilarious and decide to call him up. During the interview, Magnus explains how he’s leveraged his newfound fame — he gets free entry to cafes in Belfast where other customers have to queue, and he’s become an instant icebreaker at social events. When Scott cheekily asks if he uses it to pull women, Magnus insists he doesn’t pretend to be the Half, though he admits people do come up to him thinking he is. Scott encourages him to keep the campaign going and to remind people to buy Danny Howard Daily’s single.
