3 February 2009: Alan Carr talks for 41 seconds about Star Wars and only 17 about Justin Lee Collins

Oh, What’s Occurring?

Huw Stephens joined Chappers for a special edition of Oh, What’s Occurring?.

Scott had met Alan Carr and given him three subjects. Alan had to talk for as long as possible without pausing, repeating himself or drifting away from the subject.

Huw and Chappers predicted how long he would last each time.

Star Wars

Alan described Star Wars as a futuristic film whose sets looked as though they had come from IKEA.

He mentioned Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, lightsabres, aliens, C-3PO and R2-D2. He then called the Millennium Falcon the “melancholy falcon” and repeated himself.

His attempt lasted 41 seconds.

Huw had predicted one minute and 20 seconds, while Chappers chose 20 seconds. Chappers was closer, although Scott initially joked about awarding the point to the guest.

The X Factor

Alan next discussed The X Factor.

He described hopeful contestants arriving at auditions in Belfast, Dublin, Manchester and London, and said the “freaks” often sang Anastacia’s I’m Outta Love, Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey.

He said the poor singers were the entertaining ones, but once they were voted out the programme became boring. He also joked that Simon Cowell made a great deal of money and the winner always secured the Christmas number one.

Alan lasted exactly one minute before pausing.

Huw’s repeated estimate of one minute and 20 seconds was closer than Chappers’ prediction of more than two minutes.

Justin Lee Collins

The final subject was Alan’s television partner Justin Lee Collins.

Alan said Collins came from Bristol, had a beard and moustache, possessed a strong accent, worked with him on The Sunday Night Project and was very tactile.

He added that Collins loved breasts “men’s and women’s” before stopping.

The attempt lasted only 17 seconds.

Chappers had predicted 15 seconds and therefore won the round and the overall game.
