6 March 2009: Scott reports back from 10 Downing Street

Entering Number 10

Scott explained that visitors genuinely had to ring the doorbell at 10 Downing Street, despite the door appearing to open automatically on television.

He had cut grooves into the soles of his slippery shoes with scissors and sprayed them with hairspray in an attempt to avoid falling over. The hairspray made him smell unusual and caused the soles to stick.

At the security checkpoint, a large armed officer recognised him and said he had found Mr T funny on the programme. Scott had expected the encounter to be intimidating but found the comment reassuring.

The reception

The invitation was not an intimate meeting with Gordon Brown. Hundreds of people attended.

Scott said he did not recognise many guests. The Prime Minister delivered a short speech, and Scott managed to get into somebody else’s photograph with him, placing an arm around Brown.

He was pleased that he had not become drunk and had avoided any behaviour comparable with the mysterious Paddy McGuinness palace incident.

Food included dim sum and salmon fishcakes with a dip. Scott regarded the visit as enjoyable despite the build-up having made it sound much more personal and alarming.
