Beccy’s Classifieds: missed connections
In Beccy’s Classifieds, Beccy read personal adverts from people trying to find strangers they had seen in public.
One writer addressed a man in an orange tank top and black jogging shorts who had been “juicing” his chest in a gym. The admirer claimed to have looked for him in the changing room and sauna and ended with: “Don’t do the crime of being sexy if you can’t do the time with me, bro.”
Another person had fallen from a bicycle while passing someone walking two small dogs. A smile from the dog walker was enough to inspire an advert asking whether they might meet for coffee.
The team discussed how easily ordinary politeness could be reinterpreted as romantic interest and whether any of the adverts would realistically reunite the people involved.
Livestock Lounge Extreme
Livestock Lounge normally involved Scott touching an animal while blindfolded and trying to identify it. The “Extreme” edition brought several exotic animals into Radio 1 under the supervision of experienced handlers.
Paramedics were said to be waiting outside, other departments watched through internal cameras and the stunt was filmed for the Radio 1 website.
The first animal was placed across Scott’s body while he tried to remain calm. He eventually guessed that it was a snake and removed the blindfold to discover a python around ten feet long.
For the next animal, handlers prepared themselves and placed it on a lead before Scott touched it. The confused transcript shows him considering a cat and then something leopard-like while becoming increasingly alarmed.
The final encounter required Scott to get down on his hands and knees so he would appear less threatening. The segment ended with him meeting a penguin.
Scott repeatedly screamed, asked for the animals to be taken away and became conscious that his reactions were being broadcast and filmed.
Oh, What’s Occurring?
The first challenge tested film critic James King.
He was asked rapid film questions for 60 seconds while a woman beside him gradually removed clothing. Questions included how many Oscars The Lord of the Rings won and the home planet of the Transformers.
The distraction worked: James answered only one question correctly.
Another round asked people on Stupid Street whether they preferred the name Nick or Margaret. Margaret was the more popular answer, partly because it reminded people of older relatives and Margaret Thatcher.
The final replay featured the Cheeky Girls calling Westwood and inviting him for Romanian beef cooked by their mother. Westwood remained polite but confused as they tried to arrange a date and exchange numbers.
