Nearly 100 feet of training
Scott arrived in jogging bottoms after another Children in Need abseil session. Instructor Brian had repeatedly told him to step backwards from the edge, advice that sounded simple from the safe side of the rope. Scott had now managed almost 100 feet, a major improvement on his first 20-foot attempt, but Blackpool Tower would require four times that distance.
Looking down had been a mistake, while the discovery that some people abseiled recreationally only confused him. He promised to dress more smartly the following day, although Chris accepted that scaling buildings probably justified one afternoon in comfortable clothes.
Tom brings blondies and water
Tom Kerridge returned to Innuendo Bingo and immediately demonstrated why the show enjoyed having him. He arrived with blondies for the team, laughed before some clips had even reached their innuendo and attacked the game with no concern for his clothes.
The selection included dubious baking instructions, Rick Stein describing an ensaïmada and familiar television moments in which innocent food language became impossible to hear normally. Tom’s constant laughter ensured that Chris received water even when the material was comparatively mild. The game ended with both players soaked and Tom still delighted by the entire format.
Chris strips back the Farmer Remix
Jamie Lawson had performed an acoustic version of Avicii’s Waiting for Love in the Live Lounge. Scott decided this placed pressure on Chris to create a stripped-back rendition of his Young Farmers remix of the same song.
Over gentle music, Chris delivered lines about feeding ponies, ploughing, milking cows and shearing. Scott claimed to have goosebumps and treated the spontaneous performance as though it had been an official Live Lounge session. Chris’s deliberately rough farm vocal had somehow developed from a novelty remix into a song with multiple arrangements.
Alice Levine played Real or No Real. Police in the Maldives really had detained a coconut during a 2013 election after it was found near a polling station and suspected of being used in black magic. The police had not literally prosecuted a piece of fruit, but the underlying report was genuine enough to earn the points.
