Big Narstie’s reclining Live Lounge
The show began by reviewing Big Narstie’s 1Xtra Live Lounge cover of Bump n’ Grind. His relaxed delivery sounded as though he might be performing while lying down, but Scott and Chris admired the song choice and remembered their previous encounters with the rapper, including Scott accidentally calling him Big Tasty.
One Direction’s later Live Lounge added to an unusually busy day of performances. Scott noted that the smaller studio setting exposed singers in a different way from stadium shows and understood why the band had rehearsed so heavily.
A magic trick before the water
Dynamo arrived with the first Dynamo magic kits and challenged Scott and Chris to learn tricks before a future rematch. He also revisited the locked-box newspaper prediction from his television series, which listeners still asked Scott to explain years later. Scott repeated that he had not been involved and genuinely did not know the method.
Before Innuendo Bingo, Chris secretly selected a number and Dynamo identified it correctly from a set of cards. The game then drew on Downton Abbey, Formula 1, Radio 4 news, Grand Designs, Gogglebox and Love of Cars. Dynamo had become a more confident sprayer since his earlier appearance and repeatedly soaked Chris, while clips about expensive melons, pleasure downstairs and magic remaining in somebody’s wand did most of the damage.
Laura receives an Adele diagnosis
An online quiz promised to identify which Adele song summarised a person’s miserable love life. Neither Scott nor Chris considered himself sufficiently miserable, so they called Laura from the Student Tour, whose search for romance had supplied an entire week of material.
Her answers led through former crushes, failed dates and her current situation before the quiz assigned its suitably dramatic Adele result. The scientific value was nonexistent, but it gave the show one more opportunity to check whether the Student Tour had produced a lasting relationship.
High winds threatened Scott’s Blackpool Tower abseil, so Chris tried to arrange a reserve landmark. He called Eastleigh and suggested that Scott descend the town’s supposed statue of “Danny Howard”, only to learn it represented a railway worker and was far too small. Children in Need eventually retained Blackpool Tower, leaving Scott to face the real 400-foot challenge the following evening.
