19 October 2016: The Bangers spreadsheet exposes repeat offences

The suit remains in transit

Scott and Chris prepare for a radio awards ceremony in Leeds, although Scott refuses to accept that it is genuinely the Oscars of radio. Chris has left his only suitable outfit with an app-based dry-cleaning service and is waiting for its same-day return.

The collection was late, the deadline is approaching and the vague dress code offers little reassurance. Scott has prepared properly, while Chris risks travelling north in whatever happens to be available when they leave.

King finds a loophole

Listener King, already established as the Rachel Riley of Bangers, has expanded his spreadsheet. He wants a ruling on whether a song that has previously won may be used again, then reveals that Chris has done exactly that four times since the start of October.

The examples include Wiz Khalifa, Lethal Bizzle and Plan B’s “She Said”, which has now won twice. Chris calls some of the repeats administrative errors, admits that at least one was deliberate and blames a team that assured him his choices were available.

A guilty plea changes the rules

King insists he is identifying patterns rather than accusing Chris of cheating. His records contain no equivalent offences by Scott, making the evidence particularly uncomfortable.

Chris eventually pleads guilty while arguing that producing a fresh choice every weekday is difficult. The spreadsheet becomes the effective rulebook, and King is invited to report any future discrepancies before another winning song quietly re-enters the contest.
